For this girl who  grew up on Law & Order (original recipe) “Basic Lupine Urology” was an absolute joy. Community veered away from the arc heavy structure to present a detailed homage to the show that cemented crime procedural in our culture.

There is a very specific formula that Law & Order adhered to in nearly every one of it’s episodes over it’s 20 season run.  It’s this familiarity found in the way the episode is structured, from the pacing and length of the scenes, to the on location shooting, to the methodical way the cases were examined every week that made Law & Order such a staple on prime time over two decades.

For a Law & Order lover like me this homage was heaven sent though hard for me to tell how much mileage a non-Law & Order junkie will get from this episode so after reading the “5 Awesome Things” let me know what you thought of  Law & Order: Greendale in the comments: Read more…

Joss Whedon (writer, director) did an excellent job maintaining the overall tone of the Marvel franchise while infusing it with his trademark heart and wit.  Marvel’s The Avengers is bold, funny, action packed and emotional at all the right moments. With just about two and a half hours running time and a large ensemble there wasn’t a lot of time to spend developing each character (fortunately the other films in the franchise help with this). However, Whedon made sure that the audience gets a good feel for who each Avenger is, what motivates them, and what makes them Big Damn Heroes.

How many of you out there are now addicted to SWTOR? Not too shabby of a game right? For those that are still gaming challenged, SWTOR is like WoW in space or is that Piiiiigs Innnn Spaaaaace… god I love the muppets… but I digress.

Remember that opening sequence in the game? You know, the one that was better than all 3 prequels? Well a group of hardcore Star Wars fans from France recreated the entire CG intro – shot by shot (only in French but hey it’s subtitled).

With everyone all sorts of excited about the upcoming Avengers movie, it’s no surprise that there’s an equally hyped up soundtrack to go along with the feature. The only thing is that not only does Soundgarden make a second debut so does the rest of hard rock in the early 00′s. Get ready to hear new tracks by Papa Roach, Evanescence and wait for it – Bush (oh, Gavin!) on the soundtrack released today.

I first caught the  Kill Shakespeare bug at a live-reading of the Canadian graphic novel at The Word Festival in Toronto’s Distillery District this past November. I can think of few better ways for for a relative comic book newbie like myself to be introduced to a comic than having it read aloud to you by talented actors accompanied by the graphics on a big screen.

Vintage anime holds a special spot in my heart, along with corn dogs and Kraft Dinner. When I was in the eighth grade, I was desperately seeking some sort of creative outlet. I had one friend, Jay, and she and I were kind of the biggest losers at my elementary school (more like, hands down, the biggest losers ever). We loved beanie babies, boy bands, tamagotchis, video games and Lunchable’s pizza. It was just the two of us for the most part and we spent every day after school together.

The first time we noticed anime was one night was on a Friday at 7:00 PM. We were idly watching YTV, talking about our favourite Final Fantasy characters when this dashing looking raven-haired boy flew across the screen with more grace than an emaciated ballerina at an audition. Intrigued, we stopped talking and continued watching the episode, only to become addicted and suddenly devote that part of our lives to the rest of the series. Read more…

May 4th couldn’t come sooner and for a number of reasons – a)It’s G33KPRON’s 1 year anniversary, so you best be coming to our Star Wars party and b) Joss Whedon’s Avengers movie is opening to the public.

I wish I could be there for the premiere but I’ll be getting my Star Wars on at our party. I’ll wait until the theaters are a bit less packed to indulge my sense in the Joss Whedon’s awesomeness. Wow that sounds really bad…
