If you’re anything like me, one of the main reasons you can not get into Skyrim is the sheer loneliness. A vast terrain fraught with dragons and no one to share your glory with.
That’s about to change.
The long rumored Elder Scrolls Online turns out to be real and I can think of a few people who are probably nerdgasaming all over their Daedric armor from the news. Set 1000 years before the events of Skyrim, Elder Scrolls Online takes place on the continent of Tamriel, where the evil Prince Molag Bal is waiting to fuck your shit up. Read more…

After reading Sara’s advance mini-review of The Avengers, yesterday we went to see it and all of us couldn’t agree more – this movie was simply amazing! THIS is how you do a superhero ensemble movie.
In this episode of FRIGHT BYTES, your hosts Lianne Spiderbaby and Steve Mac review THE AVENGERS, directed by Joss Whedon.
Also: A preview of Fright Bytes in June: PROMETHEUS special featuring an introduction directed by Fangoria award-winning director, Brian Clement.

I’m sure everyone has heard the news by now, but that doesn’t make it any less sad. Adam Yauch, of the Beastie Boys, died this past Friday after an almost three year battle with cancer. Known as MCA in the trio which started out hardcore before going hip hop, Yauch can also be credited for founding both the Milarepa Foundation which produced the Tibetan Freedom concerts and film production/distribution company Oscilloscope Laboratories.
You can keep reading past the jump to hear my top Beastie Boys song picks, and tell me some of your own. Read more…
Space: the final frontier. These are the voyages of the Starship Enterprise. It’s continuing mission to explore strange new worlds; to seek out new life and new civilizations; to boldly go where no teenage girl in the 90′s-until whenever JJ Abram’s reboot came out had gone before.
I grew up loving Star Trek. Thanks to my father raising me on science fiction, video games and collectibles (he worked trade shows selling hockey cards), my space in the geek guniverse was firmly cemented from the moment I was born. I had no choice, really, especially considering he bought “me” an NES when I was two-years-old for Christmas. Yes, I know I was an advanced infant, but really: who was he fooling? Along with Sesame Street, I would watch Star Trek: The Next Generation with my father. My parents used to tell me “do your Worf face” and I would scrunch up my forehead ET-style and they would laugh. If that isn’t being raised as a geek, I don’t know what else could be. Read more…
In lieu of my usual Game of Thrones episode review, I’m going to take a moment to discuss the women in Game of Thrones, specifically related to “The Ghost of Harrenhal”. Westeros is a place where the tangible power is dominated by men; kings, lords and knights but it is also populated with women determined to change the status quo. Game of Thrones is a story about shifting power dynamics, not just regarding Kings and Lords, but the way the society is shaped.
In season one it quickly became evident that although options for women were limited, the majority of female characters we were introduced to were by no means passive in their fate. We saw this in Cercei as she used her children, particularly Joffrey as a surrogate for her power. We saw Daeneyrs rise from a girl being sold into marriage by her brother to a strong, independent Khaleesi leading a faithful group of people. We saw the spirited Arya reject the traditional role for ladies, unsatisfied with marrying into power she wished be a knight. For this her understanding father rewarded with sword fighting lessons disguised as dancing.
This season Game of Thrones has explored further the many ways women have taken control over their power beyond the role of wife and idealistic child and it is incredibly exciting. Robb’s valiant victories on the battlefield, Theon’s daddy issues, Jon and the Night’s Watch are all interesting story pieces but however the women seem to be absolutely dominating this season. Hey there, loyal minions! So I know this post is totally last minute, but I’ve been busy trying to teach my new son how to set fire to things with his brain. Or at least watch episodes of Jackie Chan Adventures with me. So far, he’s mostly just mastered screaming, blowing more chunks than the school slut on prom night and staring at a lamp for hours. It’s a work in progress, I suppose.
Anyway, GREAT things are happening this weekend. AWESOME things. And I don’t just mean the G33KPRON 1st Anniversary/Star Wars Party, though I hope to see your lovely faces there. This weekend is a whirlwind of nerdity, with TCAF and Free Comic Book Day happening as well. Bonus: both are free! But with all the comic book shops in our fair city, which one do you hit for your complimentary funnybooks? WHAT IF YOU MISS OUT ON THINGS? Well, I’m here to make sure that won’t happen. Here’s a quick guide to the places you should be going and the things you should be seeing this weekend. It’s going to be a bit short, because I’m trying to get this written before my little larva wakes up and starts screaming for boobs again.
First up, G33KPRON party. Go or you suck.
Secondly, Free Comic Book Day! Read more…
“What do your tattoos mean?” This is a question I get asked almost daily. I have 14 tattoos and let me be the first to tell you, maybe 4 of them actually mean anything. There seems to be this myth that you should only get a tattoo if the design means something profound.
Bullshit. Read more…
It’s no secret that here at G33KRPON, we love nerdy art. The minimalist art movement is everywhere and, we’ve procured an extensive collection of geeky pieces from this genre since we launched a year ago.
In honor of Star Wars Day and my favorite art style, I’ve gathered this gallery of propaganda posters from various artists who specialize in minimalism. Read more…
