Dark Shadows is Tim Burton and Johnny Depp’s eighth collaboration on a feature film. That kind of history creates certain expectations from loyal, and even casual, fans. The highly stylized Dark Shadows, based on a 1960s TV series, delivers on many of these expectations though doesn’t quite hit the mark all the way through. Johnny Depp takes centre stage as the Barnabas Collins, Helena Bonham Carter appears in a prominent role, while Michelle Pfeiffer, Eva Green, Jackie Earle Haley and the rest of the cast rounded out an excellent (but underutilized) ensemble.
Dark Shadows started off strong capturing the retro look and feel of the early seventies beautifully. Wide sweeping shots placed the audience firmly in 1972 Maine. The colours of the autumn leaves on the ground, the hippies, and references to the war matched to a stellar soundtrack were firmly juxtaposed with the Gothic set pieces; the Collins’ run down Gothic manor, Depp’s vampire Barnabas Collins and Eva Green’s scorned-witch, Angelique Bouchard among them. In “Course Listing Unavailable” Greendale suffers the unexpected fallout from Starburns’ untimely demise in last week’s Law & Order themed episode. Heading into the final episodes of the season, unsurprisingly, perhaps as it seems to occur once or twice a season, Greendale gets destroyed; floors, walls, ceilings, all affected. “Course Listing Unavailable” continues in the trend of strong continuity between throughout the season playing with story-lines and themes established throughout the series.

Wordburglar is a Canadian hip-hop artist who piqued my interest by claiming to be “a strong contender for the rapper most likely to be quoted at the water cooler” and after nodding my head along to his upcoming 3rd full length, ’3RDBURGLAR’ I can’t disagree. It’s rare for hip-hop to stick in my head as easily as bubblegum pop, but Wordburglar does it with lyrics that are sharp, clever and most importantly, make you go oooh SNAP.
In anticipation of ’3RDBURGLAR’ which drops on May 11, Wordburglar answered our ’5 Questions’ and included the video for his single, ‘Rhyme O’Clock’ which is full of nerd swagger. Keep reading to see all his answers and watch a DJ driven Millennium Falcon, Robocop’s nemesis and more in the new video.

Wordburglar: Noggin’ nodding, rhyme-based lyrical fun with classic hip-hop flavour & meekness.

Ever wonder what the Game of Thrones families would look like if they were your favorite kind of booze? Well the fine chaps at satansbrand did just that and they did it well if I do say so myself. I could easily go for a Night’s Watch Geniune Draft right now.
Too early? Nah, it’s beer o’clock somewhere in the world right? Besides, us bots NEED alcohol to keep us goin’!
All of these awesome designs are available as t-shirts at satansbrand RedBubble store so make sure you order 1 or 3 while you’re checking them out. They’ve got a lot of kick-ass other designs there too.

Ahhh, new music from Alkaline Trio’s Matt Skiba, along with his band the Sekrets featuring AFI’s Hunter Burgan on bass, and My Chemical Romance’s Jarrod Alexander on drums. The album, ‘Babylon’ was released yesterday and has already been getting quite a bit of play from a few of us on G33KPRON’s staff.
Sure, Skiba’s music is every bit as catchy and his lyrics are every bit as cynical as his Alkaline past but instead of his harmonies being complimented by Dan Adriano you get to hear Strung Out’s Rob Ramos. I’m a fan of musical supergroups and Matt Skiba and the Sekrets are no exception however ‘Babylon’ is very much Skiba’s own project. Thankfully there is way more guitar than synth this time around making ‘Babylon’ his best solo record yet. Listen to a track and find out where to stream the whole album after the jump, and please share your thoughts in the comments. Read more…

If you’re anything like me, one of the main reasons you can not get into Skyrim is the sheer loneliness. A vast terrain fraught with dragons and no one to share your glory with.
That’s about to change.
The long rumored Elder Scrolls Online turns out to be real and I can think of a few people who are probably nerdgasaming all over their Daedric armor from the news. Set 1000 years before the events of Skyrim, Elder Scrolls Online takes place on the continent of Tamriel, where the evil Prince Molag Bal is waiting to fuck your shit up. Read more…
